Nyima Murry is a British-Tibetan designer and artist.
Her research-based practice spans filmmaking, installation, and design to write alternative histories of landscape and the built environment, centring the marginalised and diasporic communities whose presence rarely survives in national or architectural archives.
Murry’s latest film, Encounters, is currently on show at the National Trust’s Kedleston Hall. Working with the Tibetan Community in Britain, Encounters traces intertwined journeys of displacement experienced by both historical artefacts and a diasporic community to reveal the entangled histories that link Britain’s imperial rule in India with its historic invasion into Tibet. Encounters is a moving exploration of memory, identity, ownership, and the enduring legacy of empire.

Nyima’s work explores oral knowledge and material culture to write and rethink architectural and landscape history through art-led investigations. Her practice often works with diverse communities to foster critical engagement with the landscapes around them.
Nyima is a doctoral researcher in Architectural Design at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, where she is a Bartlett Promise Scholar. ll. Her ongoing project Singing the Fishing follows the Herring Girls, the migrant women who worked Britain's East Coast herring trade from the 19th to the mid-20th century, through fieldwork undertaken in the Outer Hebrides and Orkney during residencies with Sail Britain and the Piers Arts Centre. Murry showed this work in her first solo exhibition, Singing the Fishing, at FILET Space, Shoreditch, in November 2025.
Trained as a Landscape Architect, previously work for EAST, and has lectured at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCLAN, UAL and Westminster.
Nyima has produced, edited and contributed to numerous art and architecture publications including Dezeen, the Architectural Review, the Architects Journal and Recessed Space and the Architect Foundation’s London Arboretum.
She is a founding member of PATCH Collective, who work to write and run events about the city from situated diasporic lenses.
In 2026, Nyima was honoured in Zetteler Studio’s ‘26 people and projects that are set to change things in 2026.’
